Finding a Remodeler – If you’ve remodeled your home before and know your remodeler you can skip this tip. If this is your first remodel and you haven’t chosen a quality remodeler in  Salt Lake City you’ll want to find one. Talk to family and friends who have had their home remodeled and find out who they used and how the experience was for them.

Research – Once you have a list of home remodelers you’ll want to do some research. Use Google and the Better Business Bureau to see if any of the remodelers on your list have had issues. If they have, and everyone has an unhappy customer at some point, see how it was resolved. That will tell you a lot about the integrity of the company.

Choosing a Remodeler – Once you’ve pared down your list start meeting with the potential home remodelers. Be sure to ask lots of questions. Find out if they have a warranty, what kind of time frame to expect and ask about change orders. Choosing a remodeler is more than about the budget, you must be compatible as you’ll be spending a lot of time communicating with your remodelers and their team will be in your home. Be sure you choose the remodeler you like best, not just the lowest bid.

Choosing the Schedule – You may not be able to choose the exact day your project will begin and end but you can choose the best time frame. It might be better to have the project taking place while the kids are in school so they don’t get under foot or maybe waiting until they are out of school so you can all take a vacation while the remodel happens is better. Whatever your schedule is, now is the time to get on the schedule before it fills up.

Take Notes – This likely won’t be your only home remodeling project. Be sure to take notes about the process so you can refine it for the next remodeling project. This will save you both time and money the next time around.
